Onwards to Gent! In the 16th century, only Paris was a greater European power than Gent, so we were not surprised that this city had more monuments that any other Belgian city. Everywhere you turned, canals, gables, castles, beguinages, medieval lanes, and lots of fabulous art museums were awaiting us. While another canal city of Belgium, Gent has a more industrial feel to it today, and is certainly larger than Brugge.
Still, lovely things to see and do but you could definitely feel a different rhythm in this city. We also continued to be greeted with spring showers on a daily basis, but the sightseeing continued…
Note: Apparently, there’s a great mass transit system in Gent, but the wires wreaked havoc with this tourist’s photo ops!

The picture of the town looks like a fairy tale movie or something. To me they look make-believe. Do you think people really live above the shops like they do in the movies? th
