I do enjoy learning local customs when living in a host country. The key to that "being fun" is learning those customs on the front end of the learning curve, rather than after you've lived somewhere for say... 2 years.
Well, that is exactly what has happened. We just learned that in Germany when one celebrates his/her birthday, they provide their own cake and share it with work colleagues, friends, or family. The practice is definitely BYOC. And apparently, colleagues can get a bit expasperated if you fail to provide said cake.
Not an issue for the Hachie Gal and the home office cat-mates as they could care less, but the Budman may have some make-up work to do. The good thing is he has a b-day right around the corner and can make amends.
