Trying to be "a glass half-full rather than a glass half-empty" kind of gal, I did brainstorm a few things we can do to get into the independence day spirit of things:
- Wear red, white, and blue garb today…easier for me to do working from the home office.
- Put on a John Philips Sousa CD and crank up the CD player when Stars and Stripes comes on.
- Cook up a good old-fashioned “4th of July” style dinner. Normally, that would include hot dogs, but we are a little “burned out” on the sausage these days. Instead, Buddy has cooked up a brisket and we’ll have all the fixins’ tonight.
- A day off from work is not in the cards, but cutting out of work a little early sure is.
- Put out our one and only July 4th decoration, courtesy of Becky K. Unfortunately, the US flags and bunting failed to make it into the packing this time.
- Watch Yankee Doodle Dandy on DVD tonight…the songs of Irving Berlin – can it get much better than that?
- Although we are not always in agreement with the things going on in the US, be thankful for our country, our freedoms, and the blessings we do have as Americans.
Parades, sparklers and fireworks, and get-togethers with friends and family will have to wait until another year. If you read this blog, please post a comment and let me know how you spent you holiday weekend – let me live vicariously through you.
And for all our Canadian friends….Happy Belated Canada Day (7/1)!

Happy Red White and Blue Forth to you guys. We had tons of folks all up and down Main St. forthe annual 4th of July Parade. (it has never been the same without the famous kazoo band!) It was greatfun and always.
We actually had a very cool breeze come up just at the end of the parade. Much appreciated!
We had our big fireworks show last night - quite good, and off to a neighborhood end of the day celebration. Wish you were here!
Well, we were away from Waxahachie friends and our family as well but we had a good day ourselves. Bud was off so we had some time to be together all day. We did some work around here and up at Joan Morton's house and then headed to Santa Fe for a movie break. We saw Cinderella Man and really enjoyed it. We drove down to Pecos Village for the annual fireworks show but found that there wasn't one this year. Oh well! We had watermelon out on the deck and watched a New York fireworks show and concert on the big screen TV from out there. It reminded me of going to the drive in movie years ago. All in all a very good day. Larry and Yvette Johnson were out here last week and Ron and Gayle are coming at the end of this week. Then Joan and her family will be up the week after that so I still feel connected to Waxahachie. They voted in a new pastor on the 3rd. I am sure you probably already know that. We love reading your daily postings.
Becky - I am assuming you are the first comment. Thanks for filling us in on all things Waxahachie.
Linda - Thanks for your note. I so love to get comments on the blog and get so few, although people are sending me emails about the blog so I know they are reading it. Glad you had a great day, and say hello to all those Hachie houseguests for us :)
