This city is THE showplace for baroque buildings. Everywhere you looked, they were there. And beautifully maintained, I might add. Due to the Mozart Festival that was underway, there were stages, scaffolding, seating, big screens, etc. in almost every square, courtyard, building, reception room, or open area available. Thus, some of the photos have these snippets in them – we did our best to photograph around them.
Salzburg is really a city for walking and for just checking out its many historic and architectural gems.

Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Neptune Fountain from Chapter Square.
Hohensalzburg Fortress, the best preserved medieval fortress in Europe. OK, so not baroque architecture, but the fine medieval structure deserves an honourable mention. More on the fortress later.
Salzburg Cathedral, the Old Residence, and the Residence Fountain in Residence Square.
The true gem: Salzburg Cathedral.
Statue of the Virgin in Cathedral Square.
The splendor of the church’s interior.
St. Peter's Abbey Church.
St. Peter's Abbey Church and the Franciscan Church.
Collegiate Church.
