He coined the acronym “WAM”...the Budman, that is. Everything in Salzburg seems to point back to this favorite son, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the brief time we were in Salzburg, we noticed the following:
• streets and market squares are named for him
• monuments are erected in his honor
• a university, the Mozarteum, bears his name
• the local airport is dubbed W.A. Mozart Airport
• a local festival for only his music is held every summer for over 2 million
visitors
• his birthplace as well as his childhood homes are museums
• any number of exhibits about WAM’s life and music are accessible for touring
• even a candy dons the Mozart Kugeln namesake
• pictures and stories of WAM grace everything from postcards, candy, stationary, posters, hats, bags, T-shirts, books, music, toys, bears, Christmas ornaments…the list goes on and on.
It was serious WAM overload…but grand fun all the same.
