Well, the rough translation of Salzburg, salt and castle, roughly describes how Salzburg came by its name. There is “salt in them hills”, many salt mines in fact. True, Salzburg, is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Mozart (who is 250 years old this year), but it also has its fair share of medieval fortresses and baroque churches and buildings.
Although quite a compact city and best explored on foor, there are ample places for lovely vistas of the town, its buildings, and scenery. I’ll think you’ll see what I mean by the following photos. We also had quite a variety of weather during a brief stay as is also evidenced below:
Views of Salzburg, Hohensalzburg Fortress, and the Cathedral from Capuchin Mountain.
A river side view of Salzburg, Hohensalzburg Fortress, and the Mozart Footbridge.
View of Salzburg and the Hohensalzburg Fortress from Monchsberg Elevator and the Museum of Modern Art.
View of the Salzburg Cathedral from the balcony of the Hohensalzburg Fortress.
View of the Salzach River from the Hohensalzburg Fortress.
