Cologne, the second time around

Paris Marathon Training: Week 16 of 18
Today’s target run: 1 hour, 36 minutes
Today’s completed run: 1 hour, 36 minutes

The Budman and I had been to Cologne before, so this time, we served as local tour guides for our Texas friends. Figuring that the whole jet lag thing would kick in mid afternoon, we decided a quick trip to Cologne might be about right for the “degree of difficulty” of touring. So, off to Cologne we all went.

I’ve shared stories of Cologne and its majestic cathedral in previous posts so I won’t bore you with that summary again (see December 2005 posts for more details).

However, it was one cold and windy day, as we made our way via train to see one of Europe’s most amazing cathedrals. Let me put it this way, I’d run my long training run earlier that morning with only leggings and a windbreaker; 5 hours later, I could have sworn the temperature had dropped 15 degrees.

Cologne’s old town, as snow begins to fall….

Having some fun, walking along the Rhine River in the snow.

Of course, our friends found the whole weather thing rather charming as if we had ordered up this snow just for them. Boy, were they in for a series of snow surprises all week long! A brief walk along the Rhine reminded us that the nearest coffee shop was definitely in order…BRGHHHH!

Saying goodbye to Cologne.
