Sweet Kitty is "all better"...now

Paris Marathon Training: Week 16 of 18
Today’s target run: 1 hour, 36 minutes

Today’s completed run: 1 hour, 36 minutes

Allow a brief interruption in the German travel tales for an update on Ginger (a.k.a. Sweet Kitty). Upon return from the pet hotel last week (yes, the girls received an all expense paid trip to a Düsseldorf pet hotel). When I say pet hotel, that is exactly what I mean. This place was replete with a front desk, daily room service, music and TV in “their private” room, “daily chambermaid service” (as it was dubbed on the website and in the brochure), and scratching posts and climbing posts in each room. And that was just for the cats.

The doggie guests apparently have use of a common yard for playing and running, and a heated swimming pool. Supposedly, the hotel owners take pictures of your pets on a daily basis that you can look at on the web to see how your kids are doing, but all we ever could find were the dog photos. Bummer!

Anyway, the Budman picked up the girls last Monday morning bright and early at Pet Hotel Central. It was then that the proprietor mentioned that one of Ginger’s teeth was broken. Huh? Upon closer inspection, that is exactly what had happened, and it was the front left fang to be exact. Now, either we are really bad parents and this episode happened on our watch and we did not even notice, or this occurred during the pet hotel vacation. We did give snaps to the pet hotel people for at least bringing it to our attention, which implies that perhaps it was simply “just one of those things that happens to an aging 14 year old cat”.

Well, Momma and Papa Bear swing swiftly into action, making the requisite vet appointment for Sweet Kitty for Wednesday AM. Long story short, that tooth probably just broke due to age and all is well with the dental condition and care of Sweet Kitty’s gums and teeth.

Downside: Sweet Kitty needed surgery to remove the broken part of the tooth. Post-op reports conclude that there were no complications in surgery (that little fang nub of a tooth has now been removed), there is no sign of infection, and that her normal eating regimen does not need to be changed. Still, she can now be dubbed “the one fang cat”. (Ssshhh…don’t let her hear you say that…I am not sure she even knows it’s gone).

PS – On a health-related note, the marathon training this week has taken it on the chin, due to a major head and chest cold and cough. Hopefully will be on the mend soon….race day is quickly approaching.
