Our main goals for Milan were straightforward - let's call them the 4S's: (1) see The Last Supper by Da Vinci, (2) shirk off any structure for the next 2-3 days, essentially doing what we wanted and when we wanted to do it, (3) sleep in as late as we wanted in the mornings, and (4) shop.
Success on all counts.
We arrived in Milan (by train via Stresa), albeit with another foggy day and still cooler temperatures awaiting us. Still, I loved Milan. If Rome has its history, Florence has its art and architecture, Venice - its romance, then Milan has chic and attitude out the wazoo! We stayed pretty much in the city center, so everything was quite walkable.
Don't let people talk you out of Milan - ever. Just recognize it offers jewels of an entirely different nature.
